What is Type certification?
The Indian Aviation Authority (DGCA) issues a document called a type certificate (TC) to confirm that an applicant has shown that a type design meets all relevant requirements. A regulatory body issues the TC, and once it is issued, the design cannot be altered without repeating some of the certification processes to include the modifications.
Is Type certification mandatory?
According to the 2021 drone regulations, no individual is permitted to use an unmanned aircraft system in India unless it possesses a valid type certificate or is granted an exemption from the type certificate requirement as outlined in these rules.
Exemption from Type certification.
Manufacturing or importing(Read More about Importing restrictions in India) an unmanned aircraft system does not necessitate a Type certificate. Likewise, operating model remotely piloted aircraft and nano unmanned aircraft systems do not call for a Type Certificate.
However, all other unmanned aircraft systems must obtain a Type certificate before they can be operated.

Process of Type Certification of Drone
The Process of Type certification starts with an online application. To get started, begin by setting up an account on the DigiSky portal. Once your account is established, proceed to complete the application. Following this, the prototype of your unmanned aircraft system (UAS) will undergo testing by the Authorized Testing Entity (ATE). You can expect ATE to get in touch with you after receiving your application. After conducting the necessary assessments, ATE will provide their recommendation, completing the process.
